Prompsit, a company founded by the creators of Apertium

Our history began does more than ten years in the group Transducens of the Departament of Llenguatges i Sistemes Informàtics of the Universitat’d Alicante. There it developed InterNOSTRUM (1999), the first translator for Spanish and Catalan of free use in Internet. His excellent quality and rapidity were the key of the success of use of this translator. Three years later (2002), the group built a translator of similar functional characteristics for the Portuguese and the Spanish, the Translator Universia. The translator is used by thousands of people through the portal Universia.

In 2005, this technology of translation rewrote and freed like free software under the platform Apertium. The platform receives at present a big number of automatic translators and linguistic tools and has a community of developers and users in continuous growth. In Apertium confluyen the fundamental investigation and his application to the industry.

Prompsit created with the aim to answer to the demand of professional services around Apertium and to take advantage of the know-how of his developers and impulsores original. The creation of the company in 2006 was accompanied of the prize IMPIVA/CEEI to the most innovative project in the contest of New Business Ideas of the Foundation Company University (Fundeun).

Over the years, we have specialised in the creation of customised machine translation solutions, which has enabled us to continue to develop Apertium in combination with other technologies. In addition, motivated by the needs of our clients, we have worked on the development of other innovative applications for information extraction and sentiment analysis.
