A Prompsit Informa project for the European Commission (DGT)

Dirección General de Traducción de la Comisión Europea

The General Direction of Translation is the service of translation of the European Commission. This organism works in the 23 official tongues of the European Union for which has a team of human translators that uses usually linguistic tools to do his more efficient work.

Meeting Client's Needs

The Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission, opened a public bidding process with the aim of widening the availability of Apertium platform resources as well as to award the contract for the organisation of a workshop on Apertium for the translators from the Commission.

Solutions Adopted

Prompsit offered, as part of its bid, a proposal for the development of bilingual lists based on parallelisation of texts, automatic extraction of vocabulary. We also proposed the participation of experts from the academic world, business community and Apertium developers in the workshop. This bid was the winning proposal.

Outcome of the Project

As a result, a number of very useful linguistic resources for the development of Apertium and other machine translators were published. The contents of the Luxembourg Apertium Workshop, held in May 2011 with excellent participation, were also released.
